Acceptable use guidelines for GPRA Forums

By registering for the discussion forums, you agree to follow the guidelines listed here.

  1. The forums are for professional discussion and debate of issues related to general practice. Make sure that your posting is appropriate and relevant. If a thread deviates from these topics or strays significantly from the original question, it may be locked. This is at the moderators’ discretion.
  2. You must not antagonise other users of this service or post any information that could be considered defamatory, obscene, abusive or unlawful. You may be held liable for the content you post.
  3. You must not use the forums for any commercial purpose (including the advertising of jobs, goods and services), or operate surveys, contests or chain letters, or promote causes or campaigns.
  4. You must not use the forums to make complaints against any individual or organisation. We’re not trying to stifle debate but to protect GPRA Forums being accused of encouraging unwarranted attacks on others. Discussion about comments made by public figures on general practice topics may be allowed at the discretion of the moderators.
  5. You must not indulge in bullying behaviour towards other users, moderators or the web team
  6. Make sure that you use the right forum for your question or comment. If you post an appropriate message on an inappropriate forum, we may forward the message to the relevant forum and let you know by email.
  7. Remember that our forums can be used worldwide. When you respond to a question, take into account legislation, cultural differences and language (for example, English may not be the first language of other subscribers participating in the forum). Humour often doesn’t translate across cultural boundaries and its use may not be appropriate.
  8. If moderators perceive that your message has broken these guidelines, they will remove it. Where possible, we’ll let you know that your message is unacceptable and why. If you’ve been warned in this way more than twice, on the third occasion, your email address will be blocked from the subscriber list.
  9. If you use multiple logins to disrupt the forums or annoy other users, you may have action taken against your forum accounts.
  10. Your account will be blocked if your forum member name:

    • contains website or email addresses
    • contains contact information, eg a phone number or postcode
    • appears to impersonate someone else
    • contains swear words or is otherwise objectionable.

  11. The decision of the moderating team on interpretation of the guidelines is final. If you’re unhappy with a moderating team decision, please refer to our complaints procedure.
  12. GPRA reserves the right to remove entirely at our discretion any contribution you post.

Moderating Team
Our discussion forums are moderated by a team of GPRA members – all unpaid volunteers. It’s the team’s role to make sure that our ‘Acceptable use guidelines’ are followed by everyone who uses the forums. At least two moderators take part in making a decision that involves interpreting the guidelines. They are supported in their work by GPRA staff.

Complaints Procedure
We are committed to providing a high quality, accessible and responsive service to our members and the public. However, if you believe that things have gone wrong, please send your complaints or comments to forums@gpra.org.au.  Where our response is not to your satisfaction, then it will be referred to the GPRA Board.

IP Address Tracking
We record the IP (Internet Protocol) address of all forum members. This information is for use by GPRA only and is only used to prevent misuse of the discussion forums.
